5. Hope

Spock knows that when darkness surrounds you, holds you in its grasp, light

becomes the only source of hope that things will get better. Leonard is

surrounded by despair at times, by the heavy weight of grief and guilt. Lets

the shadow of self-doubt and the sense of failure overwhelm him. As he looks

upon the flickering light, Spock remembers the times he has been able to

guide Leonard out of those dark places and into the light of knowledge that

he does the best that he can and that no one, even he himself, can expect

any more.
