SHE LOVES ME LIKE A ROCK

After they left the bridge, McCoy nudged Spock gently in the ribs.

“Okay,” he said; “out with it.  What did Mama Horta really say about you?”

“I’m not sure what you mean, Doctor” Spock said levelly; his tawny eyes wide in mock innocence.

“I mean she didn’t think that your ears made you better looking than the rest of us humans.  C’mon you melded with her. She must know that there are millions of pointy ear people in the galaxy.” He mimed the melding process stopping just short of the Vulcan’s face.

Spock captured Len’s hand and squeezed it briefly before dropping it.  He conceded. “What Red Pebbles said…?”

“Wait Red Pebbles?”

“Yes, that is the English equivalent of her name.  You will remember that her outer layer refracted and reflected light.”

“Yeah, I remember.”  McCoy nodded and smiled. “Now you were saying.”

“Ms. Red Pebbles said that I reminded her of her mate whom she missed very much.” Inside Spock was preening.

“McCoy chuckled; “Yeah, but her mate was made outta stone and sand.”

“Exactly, my dear doctor” Spock replied studiously staring at the lift’s door. She loves me like a rock.”
